love merengue but they don’t really play it on the radio over here and internet searches haven’t yielded many results. I can only find old songs or songs I’ve already heard. Can anyone recommend some good Merengue songs from this year or last year preferably?

I love to DJ at parties and I would like to put some merengue music since a lot of my friends are caribbean or from the N.Y. area and I’m not completely familiar with Merengue music. Give some suggestions please.

Someone told me I won’t be able to learn Salsa dancing, because I don’t know anything about Merengue or Cumbia.
Is this true?
Oh please… anyone can learn salsa without having any dance background at all. It’s not a complicated dance once you get the hang of it.
So to answer your question…. No, that’s not true. You’ll be able to learn Salsa even if you don’t know merengue or cumbia.
The only advantage to learning one of those dances first is that it’ll loosen your body up for salsa, meaning you won’t be as stiff. You’ll also get a feel for the type of body movement needed for latin dances.
I was kind of born into salsa (latin family) so I went from learning salsa first, to learning other dances like merengue, bachata, mambo etc..

Hello, I’m making Pavlova tomorrow and I have a recipe but I have never made a merengue before. What do "stiff peaks" mean, and "folding" something into something else? Do I have to use an electric mixer? If so, how do I use that?

A meringue is simply a mixture of beaten egg whites and sugar, often stabilized with an acid, such as cream of tartar or lemon juice.
First, make sure you separate the egg whites from the egg yolks. A little of egg yolks in the mix and your whites won’t beat well.
In a bowl (make sure it has no water nor flour or anything or your whites won’t beat well), beat three eggs with and electric hand mixer or stand mixer. Add 1/4 tsp of cream of tartar and a pinch of salt. Begging beating slowly af first. After a minute or so increase the speed and beat until soft peaks form. Beat in 2/3 cups of superfine sugar, 1 or 2 tbsp at a time until stiff peaks form, which will take around 7 to 10 minutes. This should make 4 cups of meringue.
