    Ok man, let me break it down some more.

    Clave is something you feel, it’s a musical guide line. Clave is a 2 bar phrase that goes in 2 directions, (2-3 or 3-2). You never cross them. That’s known as “un cruze”. And yes Jingle Bells can be played using a 3-2 clave if you want to get technical about it. When you are arranging any Latin based music, you have to be cognizant of the direction in which the clave is going. “Swave Mente” is in the 3-2 clave direction. Trust me on this.

    You are wrong man. I´m professional latin musician. 3-2 clave can be played in merengue because merengue is a 4/4 ( or 2/2) rithm. Clave simply sounds good in any 4/4 beat. Do you think I’m wrong? play jingle bells and clap the clave.
    In fact, you never see anybody playing clave in a merengue orchestra but ¡¡¡¡¡ listen a salsa orchestra¡¡¡¡¡ Don´t forget it, clave ever have been a salsa instrument . Don´t do experiments

    Think about it! It will make sense to you. Clave can be applied to most styles of music.

    It’s unfortunate that people disregard it when arranging music. Most merengues are in 3-2 clave. Put on one of your favorate tunes, clap clave where you think it may fall, and you’ll understand where I’m coming from. Peace!
